Job Summary:
The Head of the English Department is responsible for leading and managing the English curriculum for secondary school students. This role involves overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the English program, ensuring it meets the educational standards and the needs of students. The Head of Department will collaborate with other departments and contribute to the overall academic goals of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Leadership:
Develop and implement a comprehensive English curriculum that aligns with international standards and school objectives.
Regularly review and update the curriculum to incorporate best practices and current trends in English education.
Teaching and Learning:
Support and mentor English teachers in delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a positive learning environment.
Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
Assessment and Evaluation:
Oversee the assessment and evaluation processes for English students, including the development of assessments that accurately measure student progress.
Analyze student performance data to inform instructional practices and curriculum adjustments.
Professional Development:
Organize and facilitate professional development opportunities for English faculty to enhance their teaching skills and subject knowledge.
Encourage collaboration and sharing of best practices among teachers.
Communication and Collaboration:
Serve as a liaison between the English department and other departments, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and the school community regarding the English program and student progress.
Administrative Duties:
Manage departmental budgets, resources, and materials effectively.
Participate in school leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in English at the secondary level, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Experience teaching up to and including GC and A-Level English (Language/Literature).
Experience in an British international school setting is an advantage.
