Responsibilities
Overseeing the installation of elevators, mechanical walkways, and escalators.
Responding to mechanical failures and system malfunctions.
Installing and testing electrical systems.
Servicing and maintaining machine parts.
Repairing or replacing system parts.
Oiling and greasing moving parts.
Carrying out safety checks.
Maintaining stock and ordering supplies.
Maintaining a clean working area.
Read blueprints to determine the equipment needed for installation or repair
Install or repair elevator doors, cables, motors, and control systems
Locate malfunctions in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems
Connect electrical wiring to control panels and electric motors
Use test equipment, such as ammeters and voltmeters, to diagnose problems
Adjust counterweights, door mechanisms, and safety controls
Test newly installed equipment to ensure that it meets specifications
Comply with safety regulations and building codes
Keep service records of all maintenance and repair tasks
Provide assistance to supervisor in planning new installation and modification projects, preparation of specification, and major reconditioning and overhauling projects, applying knowledge of refrigerating systems, engineering specifications, and blueprints
Order for replacement of equipment parts as required, perform repairs as ordered, and keep record of servicing on equipment
Provide assistance to colleagues in the department to effectively maintain, and repair equipment, buildings, and municipal properties
Carry out minor electrical maintenance work, such as repair or replacement of fixtures, including wall switches and outlets, ballast, incandescent and fluorescent tubes and bulbs, fuses, sockets, etc., by applying the right tools
Carry out minor plumbing maintenance work, including change or repair of trenching and laying of new lines, etc.
Carry out minor masonry, painting, and carpentry work
Provide support after work hour if required in situations like emergency, workshop, commission meetings, and other company functions
Perform related duties that may be assigned.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED or SSC.
Relevant mechanical certification.
Previous work experience as an Elevator Mechanic.
Advanced knowledge of elevator systems, mechanical walkways, and escalators.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions.
Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects.
