•working on-call for emergency cases
•knowing the laws surrounding animals and their welfare
•facing a number of ethical considerations, such as deciding whether to put an animal to sleep, cut a bird’s wings and trim their beaks
•dealing with uncooperative animals and owners
•research diseases, test and manage infection outbreaks, investigate food safety issues and always stay up to date about food and treatment knowledge
