Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Electrical Controls Automation Engineer to join our technical services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fault finding, trouble shooting and maintaining electrical control systems and automation solutions onboard vessels. As an Electrical Controls Automation Engineer, you will work closely with our clients to understand their system fault, automation requirements, develop tailored solutions, and ensure the seamless integration and operation of automation systems onboard.
Responsibilities:
•Conduct testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical control systems and automation equipment onboard vessels to ensure functionality, reliability, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
•Develop and implement electrical control systems and automation solutions for shipboard applications, including propulsion, power management, navigation, and auxiliary systems.
•Collaborate with clients and marine engineers to identify automation requirements and develop technical specifications for customized solutions.
•Able to identify fault with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, AMS , VDU, sensors, transducers and other automation components to meet the specific needs of each vessel and ensure reliable and efficient operation.
•Provide technical support and assistance to vessel owners, operators, and crew members on the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of shipboard automation systems.
•Develop and maintain doentation, including electrical schematics, control logic diagrams, and user manuals, to facilitate the understanding and operation of automation systems onboard.
•Stay informed about emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in electrical controls and automation to drive continuous improvement and innovation in shipboard technical services.
Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, EEE, Automation Engineering, or related field.
•Proven experience (minm 2 years) in troubleshooting electrical control systems and automation solutions, preferably in the maritime industry.
•Strong knowledge of PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, function block diagram), SCADA systems, HMI interfaces, and industrial networking protocols.
•Familiarity with maritime regulations and classification society requirements related to electrical systems and automation onboard vessels.
•Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
•Willingness to travel occasionally to vessels worldwide for service and support activities.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field.
•Certifications or training in specific automation systems and technologies commonly used in the maritime industry (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Rockwell, Terasaki, Mitsui Zosen, Hyundai).
•Experience with electrical power distribution systems, motor control, and variable frequency drives (VFDs) onboard vessels.
•Familiarity with condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) techniques for shipboard equipment.
