A structural design engineer is a specialized civil engineer who analyses, designs, and ensures the safety and stability of buildings, bridges, tunnels, and other load‑bearing structures. In short: they make sure structures don’t collapse — under gravity, wind, earthquakes, or any other forces.
Structural analysis — Calculate pressures, stresses, strains, and load paths for beams, columns, slabs, and foundations.
Design development — Create drawings, specifications, and 3D models using tools like AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000, CATIA, or RISA.
Material selection — Evaluate steel, concrete, timber, and composites for strength, durability, and cost.
Code compliance — Apply standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, AASHTO, and local building codes.
